On February 6, 2008, Adobe released an update to version
8.1.2 for Acrobat and Adobe Reader 8 (also affecting Adobe's free Reader).
In addition to addressing bug fixes and providing support

important security fixes, among them a few of critical severity that could be
remotely exploitable.
Adobe recommends users of Acrobat and Adobe Reader 8
install the 8.1.2 update to protect themselves from potential vulnerabilities.
Acrobat and Adobe Reader 7.0.9 and earlier versions are
also affected by these vulnerabilities. Adobe will provide further information
as to the nature of the vulnerabilities via the company's Security Bulletins
and Advisories page (http://www.adobe.com/support/security/),
once updates are available for all affected versions of Acrobat and Adobe
Reader.
More information on how to

Who is eligible to enroll in Maintenance?
- If you purchased your Adobe license with Maintenance from Central Stores or the WebStore after December 1, 2005, then you are eligible to enroll in the new Maintenance subscription period. You have until May 31, 2008, to enroll in Maintenance, but WebStore highly recommends that you enroll in Maintenance immediately. If you are not currently enrolled in Maintenance and Adobe releases a new version of your product, then you are required to actually purchase the product before being allowed to enroll in the new subscription period. You must be on the latest version of a product to enroll in Maintenance.
- If you purchased an Adobe license without Maintenance but are on the most current version of the product, then you are entitled to enroll in the new Maintenance subscription period. If you do not purchase the new Maintenance plan and Adobe releases a new version of your product, then you will not be allowed to enroll in Maintenance until you purchase the new version.
- All new license purchases on the WebStore currently have the option to purchase Maintenance under the new subscription period that expires November 30, 2009.
Should I enroll in Maintenance if I am eligible?WebStore strongly recommends enrolling in the Adobe Maintenance subscriptions, as it will usually save you money in the long run. For example, if you purchase Acrobat Professional ($40) and the new Maintenance ($20) through the WebStore, your total cost for the next two years will be $60. If you elect not to purchase Maintenance, you will initially save the $20 Maintenance fee, but you will pay $40 for each upgrade. Considering that Adobe releases one upgrade per year, you will probably end up paying twice the amount ($120) over the term of the subscription. Additionally, there is no guarantee that the price of the product will remain $40 in the future, as upgrades often increase in price.
I am trying to purchase Maintenance but the WebStore says I am not eligible. You are entitled to purchase Maintenance if you are on the latest version of the product or were enrolled in the December 1, 2005, to November 30, 2007, Upgrade Plan. Your license may have been purchased by someone in your business office and, consequently, our records do not show you as being eligible for the upgrade. Please email the CITES Software Webstore and provide the SR number of the original purchase. Once we verify you have a valid license and are eligible for the current maintenance plan, we will enable your access to the appropriate WebStore offer.
What if I want to purchase Adobe products for my personal home machine? Adobe recently announced a new pilot program running until March 15, 2008, that allows Faculty and Staff to purchase Adobe products for personal use at student prices. These offers are now available on the WebStore. For more information, please review the official program announcement (
http://webstore.uiuc.edu/newsitem.aspx?PostID=3087) in the NEWS section of the WebStore.
What should I do if I am not sure how to proceed or have additional questions? Please contact the WebStore at
webstore@uiuc.edu, and we will help you with any questions you may have.

Leopard is now available for download or media purchase to current Apple Maintenance Program (AMP) subscribers from the CITES Software WebStore (direct link: http://www.uiuc.edu/goto/WS_Leopard). AMP subscribers can also reserve a loaner media kit from the offer. Tthese kits are available for pickup from the CITES Help Desk. Purchased media is expected to be available by early next week (at the latest), and anyone purchasing media now will automatically be notified as soon as it arrives.
Please note: Due to the size of the download, installation from media is strongly encouraged. The download is 7.11 GB in size and requires a Dual Layer DVD (DVD-DL) burner and blank media to install.
In addition, the current 8.5 version of McAfee VirusScan for Macintosh is not compatible with Leopard and the Security Office expects the new version of the McAfee Macintosh virus protection software to be available by 11/16/07.
If you have any questions, please email webstore@uiuc.edu.

Apple recently modified their distribution policy for educational institutions. Due to this change, WebStore will no longer be able to distribute Tiger, iLife, iWork, QuickTime Pro, or the Apple Maintenance Program (AMP) to students.
WebStore will still maintain any current AMP subscriptions and, when new versions of Apple products are released, will notify current subscribers in the AMP program with download/media purchase information.
We apologize for this reduction in service and hope to be able to offer Apple products to students again in the future.
Please direct any questions to webstore@uiuc.edu.
