In this seven-hour, hands-on course we will explore the practical features and functionality present in an out-of-the-box SharePoint 2013 site. Following an overview of the SharePoint content management platform we begin by exploring basic site navigation and searching. Exercises use many of the built-in web parts such as Announcements, Contacts, Calendars, Tasks and Assets. There will be a focus on the use of Document Libraries, esp. document versioning and check out/in operations. A three-state workflow is used to illustrate the features and operation of a typical workflow. The integration of Office 2013 applications with SharePoint and the many social features are also covered. Throughout the course, practical use cases and scenarios are presented and the class will be encouraged to think of situations where SharePoint would help their departmental operations.
Prerequisites: Familiarity with Office 2013 applications and web browsing is required. No previous experience with SharePoint is assumed.
