Two Factor Authentication (2FA) OTP token is a University approved device that is programmed to work with the University’s 2FA solution and used in combination with your username/password to prove your identity.
Why would I need this?
This physical token can be purchased for use with the University's Verify 2FA system to access information systems such as Banner or My UI Info. Most people are able to perform this function using their personal cell phone with either SMS text messaging or via the Duo app. This token can be used by individuals unable (due to limited service/functionality) or unwilling to use their personal device to perform the required 2FA function.
Personal Purchase vs. Departmental Purchase
Before buying a token as a personal purchase you should consult with your Unit/Department to determine if a departmental purchase is more appropriate. In addition, please keep in mind the token can only be used with University resources. NOTE: Do NOT use a University P-card to make this purchase because it will charge tax. For departmental purchase, please click on SHOP UNIT PURCHASE in the top left corner of the main WebStore screen and then search for "2FA" in the search bar. After you choose which type of token(s) you want, the payment option will ask for a CFOP for payment and this will avoid the tax being charged.
How it Works
1. Access a University resource that is protected by 2FA.
2. Enter your username/password.
3. Select C100 from the drop down
4. Press the button on the token to generate a 6-digit number, which is displayed on the token.
5. Enter the 6-digit number into the passcode field in the 2FA application.
6. Press “Enter” to logon.
How to Associate with your University Identity
Once a token is purchased, and before it can be used with 2FA, it must be associated with a University identity. To learn how to associate a token with your identity refer to: https://answers.uillinois.edu/internal/2fa-token
