Adobe Update Approach – Important Change
To better support the increasing frequency of Adobe security updates, we are updating how Adobe application updates are delivered.
Adobe is currently releasing updates—particularly for Acrobat—multiple times per month. Maintaining fully up-to-date installation packages at this frequency is no longer practical or necessary for most environments.
What’s Changing
- Adobe packages in the WebStore are intended for initial installation
- Ongoing updates should be performed using Adobe Remote Update Manager (RUM)
- Packages may not always reflect the latest security updates immediately
Recommended Approach
- Install Adobe applications using the WebStore package
- Use RUM to keep applications up to date
This approach ensures:
- Faster access to critical security updates
- Less need to reinstall applications
- Reduced administrative overhead
Package Update Schedule
To better align with actual usage:
- Core applications (e.g., Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) will be updated regularly
- Other Adobe application packages will be updated less frequently or upon request
- Acrobat security updates may be released more frequently and are best handled via RUM
For Environments Without Central Management
If you are not using SCCM, Munki, or another management tool:
- RUM can be run locally on a schedule (e.g., weekly)
- See: Using Adobe Remote Update Manager (RUM) for setup instructions
Why This Change
This update model reflects how Adobe now delivers updates:
- More frequent releases
- Increased focus on security patches
- Better support for automated update workflows
Moving to RUM-based updates allows systems to stay current without requiring repeated package downloads and installs.
