Using AcroCleaner

Use AcroCleaner if Acrobat continues to fail after: - reinstalling Acrobat - signing out and back into Adobe - updating Creative Cloud Desktop

AcroCleaner removes damaged Acrobat application data that a normal reinstall may not fully reset.


Before You Begin

!!! warning AcroCleaner removes Acrobat application data and resets Acrobat installation components.

This process does NOT remove your Adobe subscription.


Step 1 — Close Adobe Applications

Close:

  • Acrobat
  • Creative Cloud Desktop
  • Outlook
  • Word
  • Excel
  • other Adobe applications

Step 2 — Uninstall Acrobat

Uninstall Acrobat using:

  • Creative Cloud Desktop
  • OR your operating system uninstall process

!!! note If your computer uses managed Adobe applications and you cannot uninstall Acrobat, contact your department IT support.


Step 3 — Sign Out of Adobe

  1. Open Creative Cloud Desktop
  2. Sign out of your Adobe account
  3. Exit Creative Cloud Desktop completely

Step 4 — Download and Run AcroCleaner

Download AcroCleaner:

  • https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html

  • Download the version appropriate for your operating system

  • Extract the downloaded file
  • Run the AcroCleaner application
  • Wait for the success confirmation message

Step 5 — Restart Your Computer

Restart the computer completely before continuing.


Step 6 — Reinstall Acrobat

  1. Open Creative Cloud Desktop
  2. Sign back into Adobe
  3. Locate Acrobat under:
  4. Available in your plan
  5. Select:
  6. Install

Wait for installation to complete.


Step 7 — Launch Acrobat

Open Acrobat and confirm the issue is resolved.


IT Support Notes

Managed Adobe Packages

If reinstalling managed Acrobat packages:

  • Use the latest package version available
  • Avoid reinstalling outdated local package copies

WebStore package downloads are updated automatically.

Reordering the WebStore offer is not required.


Self-Service Packages

WebStore self-service Creative Cloud packages are equivalent to applications installed directly from the user's Adobe account.
