Adobe Error 20400 – “We Can’t Verify Your Subscription”

Use this guide if Adobe applications display:

  • “We can’t verify your subscription”
  • Error 20400
  • “Sorry, something went wrong”

This issue is most common on: - new Macs - Apple Silicon devices - University SSO / Microsoft authentication logins

Why This Happens

Adobe applications may fail to authenticate when:

  • old Adobe login tokens conflict with new device authentication
  • iCloud Private Relay or VPNs interfere with login validation
  • the wrong Adobe profile is selected
  • Creative Cloud Desktop is not authenticated first

Before You Begin

Confirm:

  • Your Adobe subscription is active: https://account.adobe.com
  • You are using your full University email address
  • You are selecting:
  • Work or School Account
  • NOT Personal Account

Step 1 — Close Adobe Applications

Quit:

  • Creative Cloud Desktop
  • Acrobat
  • Photoshop
  • all Adobe background applications

Step 2 — Remove Adobe Login Cache

Open Finder and press:

Command + Shift + G
Navigate to:

~/Library/Application Support/Adobe

Delete these folders:

  • OOBE
  • SLCache
  • SLStore

!!! note
These folders contain Adobe sign-in data only.
Your Adobe applications will not be removed.

Step 3 — Restart Your Mac

Restart the computer completely before continuing.

Step 4 — Disable Network Interference

Disable iCloud Private Relay

!!! warning
iCloud Private Relay is one of the most common causes of Error 20400 on Macs.

Go to:

  • System Settings
  • Apple ID
  • iCloud
  • Private Relay → OFF

Temporarily Disable VPN or DNS Filtering

If using:

  • VPN
  • DNS filtering
  • privacy/network security tools

temporarily disable them during Adobe login.

Step 5 — Authenticate Through Browser First

  1. Open Safari or Chrome
  2. Go to:
    https://creativecloud.adobe.com
  3. Sign in using your University email
  4. Select:
    • Company or School Account
  5. Complete University authentication and 2FA

Step 6 — Open Creative Cloud Desktop

After successful browser login:

  1. Open Creative Cloud Desktop
  2. Confirm the login transfers successfully
  3. Launch your Adobe application

Important Profile Selection

Some University accounts display both:

  • Personal Profile
  • Enterprise Profile

Always select:

  • University Enterprise Profile

Selecting the Personal profile may cause Error 20400.

Step 7 — Verify Date & Time Settings

Incorrect system time can cause authentication failures.

Go to:

  • System Settings
  • General
  • Date & Time

Enable:

  • Set Automatically

If the Issue Continues

Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool:

This removes Adobe application data and resets Creative Cloud completely.
